Joseph Gilstrap,
owner of the most successful malting firm of the time on Northgate, is buried here.
Born in 1785, Joseph Gilstrap spent a long and active life in his native Town of Newark,
being elected in 1835 to the Town Council and as Town Mayor in 1838.

General Wladyslaw Sikorski,
Prime Minister of the Polish Government and exiled during World War Two,
was buried at Newark Cemetery 16th July, 1943.
Buried among his men for over 50 years, his body was finally returned to a free Poland on 14th September 1993.

Mr Cornelius Brown (1852-1907),

was born in Lowdham, Notts, and also lived in Southwell and Newark.
The author of seven major books, including the massive two-volume "The History of Newark",
and editor of the Newark local paper for 33 years.
