Ladies fashion chains Monsoon and Accessorize open stores on Stodman Street,
replacing Iceland which closed down in 2005.
Independent interiors store La Di Da disappears from Middlegate. All change upstairs in the Buttermarket as The Buttermarket Café re-opens under new management, replacing the former Marketplatz Café within a week! Whites fine food and wine shop opens in Appletongate, in the property that was previously Ian G. Howe Wine Merchants. Another fashion chain CC (Country Casuals) opens a store on Middlegate, while on the corner of Stodman Street, telephone chain Orange moves into the old home of Johnsons Dry Cleaners. February 2006
The Kirkgate shoe retailer Stratfords of Newark enters administration. In Stodman Street, the Toymaster store and it's public house neighbour The Woolpack Inn have been found closed, as has the gift shop Hopscotch in Chain Lane.
